Top 10 Unique Things to Do in Vatican City
Vatican City might be the world’s smallest country, but it’s overflowing with art, history, and culture. I visited while staying in Rome, and it was one of the highlights of my trip. Here’s what I did — and what’s still on my list for next time.
1. Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel 🌟 Did This
I visited on Monday morning and headed straight to the Sistine Chapel when the doors opened — it was incredible to see it before the crowds.

On Sunday, I explored St. Peter’s Basilica and the square — incredible inside and out, with jaw-dropping architecture and artwork.

3. Vatican Post Office 🌟 Did This
One of my favourite quirky experiences — sending postcards from a whole other country while standing in the middle of Rome.
JD’s Tip: Bring your own postcards or buy them there for a unique stamp.
4. St. Peter’s Square 🌟 Did This
A massive, awe-inspiring piazza framed by Bernini’s colonnades.
JD’s Tip: Visit early morning or evening for fewer crowds.

5. Papal Address 🌟 Did This
On Sunday, I joined the crowd in St. Peter’s Square to hear the Pope address the public from his window. Even from a distance, it was a special moment.

6. Vatican Gardens ⏳ Missed This

9. Bramante Staircase ⏳ Missed This
A double-helix staircase in the Vatican Museums — access is limited to certain tours.
